I am a champion of active learning. All of my courses are flipped and we spend our in-class time actively working on projects. I am constantly expanding my active learning tool box - I have recently incorporated virtual breakout boxes, group exams and group trivia to my courses. I am an Apple Teacher for iPad, Mac and Swift Playgrounds. I am currently working on incorporating coding into my courses. I also incorporate hands-on experiences whenever possible - in Tropical Ecology, we spend time in the Galapagos Islands and in an indigenous Andean village (pictures above). In Midwest Natural History, we take trips to the Cahokia Mounds, Mastodon State Park, National Great Rivers Museum and the Daniel Boone Homestead. For all of my courses, students create presentations that tie course learning to personal interests. Some of the best projects are below. Also below is my video application to be an Apple Distinguished Educator.
